Press Release: Nuclear Industry backs down
The powerful South African nuclear industry has backed down and withdrawn the complaint it laid with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCC) over the screening by Carte Blanche of Uranium Road, a documentary about the country’s nuclear industry. The hearing, planned for Wednesday the 20th February, was cancelled because a settlement was reached with M-Net. It is understood that the settlement involves Carte Blanche screening a follow-up programme on the nuclear industry.
Earthlife Africa believes that the nuclear industry has in this way managed to make claims about the veracity of the film and yet has…

Local anti-nuclear activists are infuriated that an international panel listed Valli Moosa, chairperson of the Eskom board and former environment minister, one of “50 people who could save the planet”. Moosa, who is also president of the world’s largest environmental non-governmental organisation, the World Conservation Union (IUCN), was cited for his support…

Koeberg looks increasingly likely to be the site of South Africa’s second nuclear power station.
A report released on Monday ruled out building at two Northern Cape sites and said the three other sites Eskom has proposed should be investigated further.
These are Duynefontein, right next to Koeberg, Bantamsklip, 10km southeast of Pearly Beach, and Thyspunt, near Cape St Francis. However, Koeberg comes up trumps in comparison, rating favourably in eight out of the 13 categories for assessment.
Its advantages include the existing nuclear infrastructure and power…

Press Release: Small independent film upsets the powerful nuclear industry
The South African nuclear industry has lodged a complaint with the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (BCC) over the screening on M-Net’s Carte Blanche of a documentary about the country’s nuclear industry.
Earthlife Africa is extremely concerned that this is an attempt by the powerful nuclear lobby to silence any dissenting voices.
A hearing date has been set for February 20 at the BCC’s offices in Johannesburg. The hearing is open to the public.
Entitled Uranium Road…
